This is a legacy commit from before 2015-03-01.
It may be incomplete as well as inconsistent.

The resulting spectrum is saved in a time series file format. The sampling
interval is routinely set to the sampling interval in frequency domain then.
This must not be done in cases where not spectral representation is produced,
i.e. in the case where only the tapered time series is written to the output.
